Resetting your boiler after a lockout
When the boiler locks out, it shows a code or a warning light. A reset may be enough if the cause has gone, but there's a right way to do it.
Before you start
- Write down the code shown: it tells you what happened.
- Smell gas? Don't reset and don't touch any switches: open the windows, turn off the meter if you can, get outside and call your network operator's gas service (Sibelga in Brussels: 0800 19 400 · ORES: 0800 87 087 · RESA, Liège area: 04 362 98 38). Once the leak is made safe, call us to repair and restart your heating.
- Check the pressure gauge and that the gas tap is open, or that there's oil left in the tank.
Step by step
- Find the reset button, often marked « reset ». On some models you press two buttons at once: the manual says so.
- Press it, or hold it for a few seconds depending on the model.
- Give the boiler a minute to restart.
- If the code comes back, don't keep trying: repeated resets can lock the appliance. For a Riello oil burner, the manufacturer asks for no more than two resets in a row.
Call us if…
- The code comes back after a reset.
- The boiler locks out often, even if it restarts.
- The code concerns the flue or the gas.
Based on the manufacturers' manuals (Bosch Condens 2300i W 6721825838, De Dietrich Naneo 7717609, Riello 40 G3R 20199626). Every appliance has its quirks: if in doubt, your own manual applies.
